Three decisions

Moving an existing system. Ask the company early. Vivint asks customers to call at least 2 weeks before a move and offers three paths: move the equipment yourself with guidance, have it professionally removed and reinstalled, or leave it and set up a new system1.

Equipment versus monitoring. Monitored systems have two prices. Vivint's package page lists equipment from $199.99 with professional installation and says professional monitoring needs a separate agreement and monthly fee2; its monitoring page starts at $24.99 a month3.

Contract terms. Read how the equipment is paid for. Vivint's financing page describes paying upfront with month-to-month monitoring and a $100 activation fee, or spreading equipment payments over 36-60 months4. A longer commitment changes what you owe if you move again.

Before you sign at the new place

    See what the home already has

    Previous owners may have left sensors or a panel. Ask whether it can be reactivated before buying new.

  2. Step 2

    Get both prices in writing

    Equipment, installation, activation and monitoring are separate lines.

  3. Step 3

    Read the term and moving clause

    Ask what happens to the contract if you move again.
